Tools & Process
J. Laren began as a traditional artist favoring pencil and charcoal, eventually moving to digital with a Wacom tablet. After working in Photoshop for a decade, Laren switched to an iPad Pro tablet and the Procreate app.
Laren's artwork is drawn freehand from both imagination and references, with an aim to balance high realism with fantasy. Most paintings take 20-40 hours to finish though some require much more time. (e.g. crowns, Zi paintings)
While working exclusively in digital, all Archon paintings are meant for the wall—often drawn at 20"x30" actual size or larger.
